Natural carbon removal uses plants and soil to take CO₂ that is already in the atmosphere and store it — in our case fast-growing bamboo, which binds carbon in its biomass and in the ground. That is different from avoidance, which only prevents new emissions.
Reducing your own emissions always comes first. But some emissions cannot be avoided yet, and historical CO₂ is already in the air. Offsetting with genuine removal certificates funds fields that take that CO₂ back out — which is what reversing the curve requires.
Bamboo is among the fastest growing plants on earth, regrows after harvest without replanting, and stores carbon in both biomass and soil — so a field keeps removing CO₂ year after year.
A bamboo field is planted once and then keeps producing: no annual tillage, no replanting, roots that hold the soil and improve water retention, and year-round green habitat. The harvested culms feed the bio-based industry as a rapidly renewable material.
For us they are two sides of the same thing. The credit is the unit — one tonne of CO₂ removal registered in the public ONCRA ledger. The certificate is the document in your name that proves you hold that removal.
Because the claim is specific and checkable: a named farm, a measured tonne, a public ledger entry. Anyone can trace your certificate back to the field it comes from — the opposite of a vague green promise.
Choose a farm, set the number of tonnes and send your request. We contact you within one working day to arrange payment. Your removal is then registered in the public ONCRA ledger and your certificate is emailed to you.
The proceeds go to the farmer as a second income stream. That income is exactly what makes planting bamboo on marginal land viable — your purchase keeps the field growing.
One certificate represents one tonne of CO₂ removed. The price depends on your volume and on who is buying — a private buyer, a company in the Netherlands, or an EU company with a valid VAT number (reverse charge). Send a request or ask for a proposal and we send you a quote, usually within one working day.
Every farm is measured: soil tests by a licensed agronometer, cross-checked by an independent laboratory, with follow-up measurements every three years. Removals are certified under ONCRA's Land Stored Carbon Protocol, registered in the public ledger, and the methodology was verified by Bureau Veritas.
Yes. Every project page links to its ONCRA registry entry and public ledger, and for most farms you can download the signed certificate of compliance. Want more — measurements, maps or an introduction to the farmer? Contact us.
Open Natural Carbon Removal Accounting — the Dutch registry that certifies our credits and administers the public ledger that prevents double counting.
Verra and Gold Standard are large international programmes, historically centred on avoided emissions in projects far away. ONCRA is a Dutch registry built specifically for natural carbon removal, with open accounting: every credit, calculation and transaction is public — and the farms are close enough to visit.
Yes. Beyond the measured tonne of CO₂, the protocol looks at the wider impact of a farm — soil restoration, biodiversity and nature-inclusive agriculture — and each project's documentation is public in the registry.
They are part of the voluntary carbon market, so no government body regulates them. Instead they are certified under ONCRA's protocols, registered in a public ledger that prevents double counting, and the methodology has been verified by Bureau Veritas.

At nature's best, because of bamboo
Bamboo stops land degradation and makes soils healthy again. With 60-70% degraded soils in the European Union, we need to act now with efficient and sustainable solutions to maintain food security, biodiversity and climate stability.
